A 14-year-old boy has been arrested after going on a stolen car joyride across the Gold Coast early this morning.

Police spotted a stolen 2019 BMW X1 driving dangerously on Pine Ridge Road at Coombabah around 3am.

Officers tracked the vehicle before deploying tyre spikes on nearby Brisbane Road a short time later.

“The vehicle continued for a short distance before it was abandoned near Country Club Drive with the driver fleeing on foot,” Queensland Police said.

Dog squad officers were called in to help track down the teen who was found hiding in mangroves just after 4am.

The boy was arrested and taken to the Gold Coast University Hospital for observation.

Police have confirmed the BMW was stolen from a unit on Karri Court at Burleigh Heads on June 2.
