LATEST @ 8.00 AM | Rapper Sean “Diddy” Combs has been denied bail while he awaits sentencing for prostitution offences.
It comes after the disgraced rapper was this morning acquitted of the more serious charges of sex trafficking and racketeering.
However, the 55-year-old is still facing up to 20 years behind bars after being found guilty by a jury of two counts of transportation to engage in prostitution.
His defence had asked that he be released while he awaits sentencing, but the judge denied that request due to his violent behaviour.
He will now remain behind bars until he returns to court for sentencing on October 3.
The music mogul’s defence team is seeking a prison sentence of 21 to 27 months, while prosecutors have asked for a sentence of 51 to 63 months.
EARLIER @ 6.45 AM | Rapper Sean “Diddy” Combs has been acquitted of racketeering and sex trafficking, the most serious charges against him, in his New York trial.
However, the jury did find the 55-year-old guilty of two counts of transportation to engage in prostitution, which carries a maximum sentence of 10 years behind bars per charge.
It follows a massive seven-week trial in Manhattan, with the disgraced singer bowing his head in prayer as the verdict was read.
His defence has asked the judge that he be released whilst he awaits sentencing, with the potential for him to walk free as early as today.
“My proposal would be that he be released today, that he be permitted to live at his home in Florida,” The rapper’s lawyer Marc Agnifilo said.
“It would be a bond of whatever size your honour sees fit, US $1 million?”.
Prosecutors have opposed that request, with the rapper’s bail hearing scheduled to begin soon.
