A mother has been banned from the Surfers Paradise party precinct after allegedly launching a violent attack on a police officer.

The woman is accused of punching the officer in the head after spotting him questioning her son following an alleged brawl on the glitter strip on Saturday night.

“The officer had just finished his shift and was walking home past The Avenue nightclub when he saw a physical disturbance going on with a number of people,” Superintendent Peter Miles said.

“He’s done the right thing and identified himself as a police officer, when one of the males involved has run off.

“He’s caught up with him and brought him back to the scene to work out what was going on.

“That’s when the mother of the man the officer was able to capture has then decided to punch him in the head”.

The woman was arrested at the scene and charged with the serious assault of police, along with an order banning her from the safe night precinct.
