A man has been charged with arson following investigations into a large boat fire in Southport last week.
Police allege the man boarded a boat moored in the Broadwater around 3:30pm on Friday before he lit it on fire.
The man then escaped the vessel, before swimming towards Wave Break Island where he was arrested by police.
The man was treated for minor burns to his face, while the boat was also completely destroyed.
The 45-year-old from Banora Point has been charged with one count of arson.
He was due to front Southport Magistrates Court on Saturday, January 3.
