Teen girls left for dead after e-bike struck by van in alleged hit-and-run

Investigations are continuing into a serious hit and run crash in Coolangatta over the weekend.

A white Mitsubishi Express van was travelling west on Marine Parade around 7pm on Saturday when it collided with a DiroDi Rover Pro E-Bike travelling in the bicycle lane.

The driver of the van allegedly fled the scene, continuing on Marine Parade before crossing the border into New South Wales.

The rider of the e-bike and a passenger, both 15-year-old girls, were rushed to the Gold Coast University Hospital with serious injuries.

Shortly after the crash, the 40-year-old driver of the van was arrested by NSW Police in Tweed Heads in relation to other matters.

Charges are yet to be laid, with investigations into the crash ongoing.
