It’s been another red hot day of bidding action at the Magic Millions Yearling Sales on the Gold Coast.

An outstanding colt by Newgate Farm’s superstar sire Extreme Choice was the top seller on Day Two, going under the hammer for a whopping $2 million.

The colt, which is a half brother to Group Three winner Wollombi, now shares top spot on the leaderboard after a colt by champion international sire Frankel also sold for $2 million on opening day.

The stunning horse attracted a flurry of bids and in the end it was Yulong Investments who held the winning bid when the gavel was slammed down.

“He’s a very special colt,” Yulong’s General Manager Jun Zhang said.

“He was our only target that we definitely needed to buy.”

“We can see some stallion potential with him and also we own the sister as well, she is in-foal to Diatonic, so we try and create our own families so that is another reason why we had to get him.”

“Extreme Choice is a very successful stallion and could be a history (making) stallion in the future, so this is why Mr Zhang is trying to get every Extreme Choice he can.”

The team from Kingstar Farm were over the moon to make history with the colt eclipsing the previous best price for a yearling by the stallion held by the farm’s former Magic Millions graduate, Blue Diamond winner Devil Night.

“From the time the horse was born he was special,” Kingstar’s Stud Manager Adam Cook said.

“We bred Devil Night, we bred Stay Inside – both sons of Extreme Choice and I’m sure this bloke is going to be just as good as them.”

“It’s great that people believe in the product that we breed – I’m over the moon. I’m just so happy for Matthew (Sandblom, Kingstar Farm’s owner),” Cook summed up.

“The previous record (for Extreme Choice) was also with Yulong at $1.4 million for Devil Night, so they’re obviously a happy customer,” Matthew Sandblom added.

“They’ve come back for another one who is probably a better type than the one they’ve bought before – it’s a great result for us and Yulong it’s great because we’ve given them results.”

In total, buyers have already splashed over $93 million across just two days of sales, with an average price of $288,266.

Day Three will commence at 10am this morning.
