A serial arsonist is on the run, accused of sparking multiple fires on the northern Gold Coast.
Fire crews were called to a grass fire on Pimpama Jacobs Well Road at Pimpama around 2.50pm on Thursday following reports of a blaze.
Firies were able to extinguish the flames, before being called back to the area just hours later after a second blaze ignited further along the road around 7.40pm.
Up to 20 fire crews were needed to battle the fire at the height of the blaze, which tore through over three hectares of land.
“Preliminary investigations indicate that the fires appear to be deliberately lit,” Queensland Police said.
Detectives are also investigating whether they’re linked to other minor fires in the area over the past month.
Thankfully in all instances the blazes were quickly extinguished with no damage to properties and no injuries.
However, a rural fire service truck was damaged after crashing while battling last night’s grass fire.
The truck was travelling across a causeway that gave way, causing it to plough into a creek.
Police are now appealing for anyone who may have seen anyone acting suspiciously around the area around the time of the fires or has relevant CCTV to come forward.
