Wading in cautiously optimistic about this one.
Return to Westeros with this newest Game of Thrones spin-off series. Set a century before the events of Game of Thrones (and roughly 70-odd years after the events of House of the Dragon) we find Ser Duncan the Tall and his squire Egg, in HBO’s newest series A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms.
The story will follow Ser Duncan and Egg as they wander Westeros. Dragons are now gone but their memory still fresh. Ser Duncan the tall, an ambitious hedge knight, seeks to find a place in a major house to earn greater status. He travels the land and engages in tournaments across Westeros to catch the eye of house leaders so that they may take him in.
Unlike its cousins Game of Thrones and House of the Dragon, A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms offers a lower stakes series with a more grounded story. The show is set to feature less magic and mythical creatures and more competition and sword fighting. But much like Martin’s other works, the show is set to have its own twists and mysteries. Readers of his books will surely know a few key facts about Duncan and Egg that will give them hints as to what we are set to see but are largely also in for a series with fresh a new story.
For those who don’t know, Ser Duncan is even referenced in the Game of Thrones TV series, when Joffrey Baratheon looks through a book of past Knights (the Book of Brothers) he finds a chapter on Ser Duncan the tall and makes reference that his chapter is notably larger than most. To find out whether Duncan is a knight that left a positive mark or a stain in the history of Westeros you’ll have to tune in to watch! (You could also Google it, but seriously, why would you want to spoil it for yourself?)
You can catch A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms on HBO Max now!
