Fans of the Godzilla franchise are mourning the heartbreaking loss of Kaylee Hottle, the young actress who played Jia in Godzilla vs Kong, after she died in a car crash in Maryland. She was just 18 years old.
A Star Who Stole Hearts
Hottle made her feature film debut in 2021’s Godzilla vs Kong, playing Jia, the deaf orphan who forms a special bond with Kong through American Sign Language. Her heartfelt performance quickly won over audiences, and she returned to the role in 2024’s Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire.
Off-screen, Hottle became an inspiration for many, advocating for authentic deaf representation in Hollywood and helping shine a spotlight on the importance of inclusive storytelling.
Tributes Pour In
The devastating news was confirmed by Hottle’s father, Joshua, in an emotional video shared in American Sign Language. Tributes have since flooded in from co-stars including Rebecca Hall and Millie Bobby Brown, as well as members of the deaf community, all remembering Hottle for her kindness, talent and the lasting impact she made in such a short career.
According to authorities, Hottle was a passenger in a vehicle that left the road and crashed into a culvert in Frederick County, Maryland. She was airlifted to a trauma centre but sadly died from her injuries. Police believe excessive speed may have been a factor, with investigations continuing.
