A whip from Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade, wielded by Harrison Ford, has just fetched a cracking price at auction, and it comes with a royal twist.

The iconic bullwhip, used during the film’s climactic Holy Grail trials, sold for $US525,000 ($A809,000) at Heritage Auctions’ Summer Entertainment Auction.

What makes it even more intriguing? The whip once belonged to Princess Diana.

Ford gifted it to then-Prince Charles at the film’s UK premiere, and Diana later passed it on to the current and unnamed owner. The buyer also chose to stay anonymous.

“The bull whip is the iconic symbol of an iconic character of cinema history, Indiana Jones, and has been a highlight of this auction,” said Heritage executive vice-president Joe Maddalena.

Still to go under the hammer are Macaulay Culkin’s knit snow cap from Home Alone, Kurt Russell’s revolver from Wyatt Earp, a pair of Hattori Hanzo swords from Kill Bill Vol. 1, and a signed first edition set of Harry Potter novels.
