Katy Perry was mid-serenade at her Lifetimes Tour stop in San Francisco when things took a very unexpected – and very airborne – turn.
The ‘California Gurls’ singer was making a grand entrance atop a giant mechanical butterfly at the Chase Center, blissfully unaware that the metal insect was seconds away from staging a mutiny.
Just as she was gearing up to belt the chorus of ‘Roar,’ the butterfly dipped – dramatically. For a split second, Perry was literally flying solo as the suspension gave out, sending her momentarily airborne while the crowd gasped (and probably clutched their pearls).
A fan-captured video shows Perry soaring through the air, only to recover like a true pro. After a brief, startled pause, Perry jumped right back into the performance.
Katy Perry’s giant butterfly prop just malfunctioned mid-show and nearly took her out… she really said fight or flight 🦋💥 #lifetimestour #KatyPerry @katyperry @ChrisAntonacci1 @todaykatyp pic.twitter.com/MeXJ77JJBj

This isn’t her first rodeo with rogue stage props, either. Earlier this month, she was suspended in a massive cage when another malfunction struck (below). Did she panic? Nope. She just kept singing like she had nerves of steel.
Oh, and in case you missed it, back in June a fan decided to crash the stage mid-show. Perry brushed that off too, barely missing a beat.
At this point, it’s safe to say she’s a master in handling chaos.
