If you have been waiting on the edge of your seat for Quentin Tarantino to drop his 10th and final movie, there is good news and bad news.

The good news? He has officially confirmed that the script is written and he loves it. The bad news? He is not quite ready to yell “action” just yet. The legendary director behind massive hits like Pulp Fiction and Kill Bill is taking a bit of a detour before his Hollywood farewell.

Trading Hollywood for the West End Instead of heading straight back to a movie set, Tarantino is packing his bags for London. His next major project is actually a theatre production. He is directing a West End play called The Popinjay Cavalier, which is scheduled to begin previews at the Phoenix Theatre on February 23, 2027.

It’s not your average stage show. It is described as a swashbuckling comedy set in 1830s Europe, and it stars none other than Sacha Baron Cohen as the lead character, Rupert Sebastian Thomas Jr. Knowing Tarantino’s famously wild imagination and Cohen’s knack for comedy, it is bound to be a wild ride.

Needing Time to ‘Live a Little’ So, why the delay on the final movie? Speaking recently on The Graham Norton Show, Tarantino opened up about needing a break from the relentless grind of filmmaking.

“I’ve written a script that I could do that I really, really like, but I have to do the play and see who I am, right?” he explained to Norton.

He made it clear that family and personal time are taking priority right now. After the play wraps up, his plan is to go back to his family, “live a little,” and just see what happens next. It is a fair call for a guy who has spent decades giving us some of the most iconic moments in modern cinema.

The Infamous 10-Movie Rule If you are wondering why there is so much pressure on this single script, it all comes down to Tarantino’s strict 10-movie limit. For years, he has promised to retire from directing feature films after he hits double digits. He counts the two Kill Bill volumes as one single film to make the math work, but the rule remains.

Why stop at ten? In a 2022 interview, he explained that he wants to leave the party while people still want him there. He does not want to keep making movies until they start dropping in quality. It is a decision that has split movie fans right down the middle, some respect the decision to finish on a high, while others think setting an arbitrary limit on a career is a mistake.

Now, we finally know he has found a new story to tell. We just have to let him finish his play and enjoy some family time before we get to see it on the big screen.
