It is time to dust off your sparkly planners and brush up on your “bend and snap,” because the most iconic blonde in cinematic history is making a comeback, well, a “come-before.” Prime Video has finally graced us with the first exclusive images and an official teaser trailer for Elle, the highly anticipated prequel to the Legally Blonde franchise.

Set to premiere on 1 July 2026, the series promises to take us back to where the sparkle began. In a move that signals massive confidence in the project, Amazon MGM Studios has already greenlit a second season before the first has even hit our screens. It seems the power of pink is as lucrative as ever.

A Blast from the 1995 Past

While we first met Elle Woods as a resilient, Harvard-bound law student, Elle takes us back to 1995. This is Elle in the trenches of high school, a time of “tricky friendships, forbidden romance, and questionable fashion choices,” according to the official synopsis.

The mid-90s setting is a stroke of genius for those of us who appreciate the aesthetic of that era. Before she was deconstructing the rules of evidence, Elle was navigating the tumultuous social hierarchy of secondary school. The series aims to show her evolution, proving that her signature optimism and tenacity weren’t just personality traits… they were forged in the fires of teenage drama.

Meet the New Elle

Stepping into the designer shoes of a young Reese Witherspoon is Lexi Minetree. It is a daunting task to portray a character so synonymous with an Academy Award winner, but the teaser suggests Minetree captures that specific blend of earnestness and intelligence that defines Elle Woods.

The cast is bolstered by the parental roles. June Diane Raphael stars as Elle’s mother, Eva, while Tom Everett Scott takes on the role of her father, Wyatt. The series reportedly places a heavy emphasis on Elle’s family life, specifically the bond with her mother, which serves as her touchstone as she navigates the hurdles of adolescence.

The supporting cast is equally impressive, featuring James Van Der Beek, Kayla Maisonet, and David Burtka in recurring roles. With Pitch Perfect director Jason Moore helming the first two episodes, the series looks set to deliver that perfect “feel-good” energy with a polished, cinematic edge.

Why We’re Watching

Produced by Hello Sunshine (Reese Witherspoon’s own company) and Amazon MGM Studios. Creator Laura Kittrell (Insecure) and co-showrunner Caroline Dries are tasked with bridging the gap between the teenage Elle and the legal powerhouse we know and love.

Personally, I am most excited to see the “questionable fashion choices.” In 1995, we were on the cusp of the vibrant, maximalist styles that would eventually define the early 2000s. Watching Elle find her signature style is the nostalgic hit we all need this winter.
