Tom Holland is back swinging through the streets in Spider-Man: Brand New Day, but it turns out the latest Marvel blockbuster almost looked very different.
The Edit The Cast Hated
Usually, film studios love to listen to test audiences. But Holland recently revealed that a fan-focused edit of the new movie was a total disaster.
During post-production, the creative team built an early version of the film taking on board all the notes from random viewers, giving the people exactly what they asked for. The result?
“When me and Destin [Daniel Cretton] and the producers watched that movie, we hated it,” Holland confessed.
The actor admitted the experiment did not work because trying to please everyone meant the film strayed too far from the creative direction the filmmakers actually wanted. Luckily, they pivoted back to their original vision, and the final cut has been winning over audiences since it hit cinemas on July 29.

A Clear Vision For The Next Spider-Man
While Holland is still firmly in the suit and delivering what fans call his most mature performance yet, he is already thinking about the future. The 30-year-old star revealed on a recent podcast that a clear plan for passing the baton has been in the works since No Way Home.
So, who will take over? Holland is not usually one to drop names, but he did mention Adolescence actor Owen Cooper as a fantastic option. If Holland gets his way, he hopes to help set up the next chapter and swing off into the sunset, just like Robert Downey Jr. did for him.
