The Gold Coast has put on another show, with close to 200,000 people hitting the streets of Surfers Paradise for the Gold Coast 500.

The three-day event is tipped to have injected a whopping $60 million into the local economy, reaffirming its status as a cornerstone of the city’s events calendar for more than 30 years.

For the first time ever, the Gold Coast hosted the inaugural Supercars Finals Series, delivering breathtaking racing drama as the top 10 drivers battled for championship glory.

Fans were treated to two 250-kilometre races along with a week-long festival of entertainment.

“The Boost Mobile Gold Coast 500 has once again delivered an incredible three days of racing and entertainment for fans here in the heart of Surfers Paradise,” Supercars Chief Executive James Warburton said.

“From the track to the beachside activations to Supercars first-ever finals races and world-class entertainment, fans embraced everything this event has to offer.

“We thank our volunteers, sponsors, broadcasters and, most importantly, the fans who make this event so special year after year.”

It was a weekend to remember for Gold Coast based driver Chaz Mostert who completed the clean sweep, outduelling local boy Broc Feeney in a thrilling late-race restart to take out Race 29 on Sunday.

“Today’s performance was all the team,” Mostert said post-race.

“We were second on road, and we know how critical is to be on top of pit stops, give it your all, and it’s a team sport.

“This win’s the team, they were perfect in the pit stops, they held their nerve under pressure, and I wouldn’t be here without them. The team got me here today.”

“Broc was super fast, no doubt he probably deserved the victory today, and he showed there at the end how fast he was.

“Our car just wasn’t quite as good on the Soft, but we were clearly second favourite car, so you just need some luck sometimes.

“Funny enough, I joked to my wife coming into this weekend. She said we had an appointment on Monday that we had to make, and then in the schedule they said the winner has to go to this thing on Sunday tomorrow morning.

“I said, ‘I’m just going to win both of them darling,’ so next time I’m just going to bluff it most weekends.”

The victory sees Mostert climb to second in the Championship standings heading into the Sandown 500, behind Feeney who retains the championship lead, while Bathurst 1000 winner Matt Payne drops to third.
