Queensland footy fans will get a close-up look at the AFL’s most prized piece of silverware, with the Premiership Cup arriving in the Sunshine State this week.

The visit is part of the national tour celebrating the lead-up to this year’s much anticipated Grand Final.

Adding star power to the occasion, two-time premiership player, dual Brownlow medallist and inaugural Gold Coast SUNS captain Gary Ablett Jr. will be on hand to help showcase the trophy during the celebrations on the Gold Coast.

The Premiership Cup tour is designed to give fans across the country a chance to feel part of the AFL’s biggest moment of the season, with Queenslanders tipped to turn out in force to see the silverware.

AFL officials say it’s a unique opportunity for locals to share in the excitement, even if they can’t make it to the MCG on Grand Final day.

For the Gold Coast in particular, the Cup’s arrival highlights the growth of AFL in the region since the SUNS’ entry into the league.
