Wannabe thief on the run after attempted phone sale ends in dramatic crash

A wannabe phone thief is on the run following an attempted robbery in Reedy Creek overnight.

Police say a 19-year-old man had organised to sell his phone to another man on Kauri Pine Street around 9.30pm on Tuesday.

However, when the buyer arrived, he allegedly tried to steal the phone.

The seller accelerated to escape, but ended up losing control and crashing his Toyota Corolla into a parked vehicle.

The 19-year-old and a 17-year-old female, who was a passenger in the vehicle, were not physically hurt.

The robber fled the scene on foot and remains at large this morning with a search now underway.

Investigations are ongoing.
