It’s been another extra chilly start to the day, with temperatures plunging below zero in parts of the Gold Coast this morning.

Residents in Nerang, Highland Park and Canungra shivered through the coldest conditions, with the mercury plunging to any icy 0.1C just after 6am.

Those in parts of the southern Gold Coast also found themselves reaching for an extra blanket, with temperatures dipping to 5C in areas like Coolangatta, Burleigh Heads and Tallebudgera Valley.

The Bureau of Meteorology says a cold front passing south over NSW and fresh westerly winds are to blame for the cool conditions, which are bringing frosty mornings and crisp air.

While the days are expected to be sunny, temperatures will remain below average, with highs only in the low 20s.
