Car brings down pole, knocks out power to dozens of homes, businesses

A man has been taken to hospital after crashing into a power pole in Bundall, leaving dozens of homes without power.

Emergency services were called to the intersection of Ashmore Rd and Upton St around 4.15am on Friday.

The force of the crash knocked the pole to the ground.

The 64-year-old male driver was transported to the Gold Coast University Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

Work is continuing this morning to remove the pole with the help of a crane, with diversions in place for motorists.

As at 7.30am, 28 nearby homes and businesses were still without power.
