Charges laid after hit and run that left man fighting for life

A man has now been charged over an alleged hit and run incident on the Gold Coast that left a man fighting for life.

The 20-year-old victim was walking along Cattleya Street in Hollywell around 1am on Sunday when he was struck by a Nissan Navara utility which then fled the scene.

The injured man was rushed to hospital where he remains in a critical condition.

Police eventually tracked down the vehicle involved and took the 23-year-old male driver in for questioning.

The Runaway Bay man has since been charged with one count each of acts intended to maim/disfigure, dangerous operation of a vehicle and driver fail to remain at incident and render assistance.

He is expected to appear in Southport Magistrates Court today.
