It looks like the Mayor will make good on his promise to keep rate increases in line with inflation.
Rates are expected to rise by 2.7 per cent, increasing the average bill by about $113 in the next financial year.
However, there’s reports ratepayers could be slugged a new charge relating to the city’s cyclone recovery.
Council is reportedly considering a new ‘Disaster Management Response and Recovery’ charge to try and recoup some of the costs from Alfred’s growing bill.
It comes as it’s revealed the cost to repair and rebuild our beaches will now be at least $50 million.
“It could come up higher as I’m getting additional costs where we’ve got to upgraded our other infrastructure,” Tom Tate told Nine News.
“We’ve got to have a reserve to be able to activate clean up quickly, the skin bins, or those sort of things come at a cost”.
All will be revealed when the City Budget is handed down on Friday.
