Council will go ahead with a planned trial of a pedestrian-only zone through the heart of Surfers Paradise.
The three-month trial is part of the proposed revitalisation of the tourist precinct.
The move was meant to coincide with the Pacific Airshow, which was due to be held this weekend but had to be cancelled because of safety concerns on the beach.
The trial will now kick off on Monday, August 18 and will see vehicles barred from the Esplanade between the Soul building and Hanlan St.
Elkhorn Avenue will also become a full two-way street between the Esplanade and Surfers Paradise Boulevard as part of the trial.
No car parks will be removed, and access for emergency vehicles will be maintained.
The move was meant to coincide with the Pacific Airshow, which was due to be held this weekend but had to be cancelled because of safety concerns on the beach.
Council will use the trial to showcase the potential of the Esplanade, with placemaking features and events in the pedestrian zone, which could form part of a future transformation of Surfers.
