Dog owners are being warned they’ll need to put their pets on a leash at one of the Gold Coast’s busiest off-leash dog beaches.

Construction is getting underway at Tallebudgera Beach for the next six months, to repair the training wall after it was damaged during Tropical Cyclone Alfred.

As a result, dog owners will be forced to keep their dogs leashed between 7am and 5pm on weekdays.

Owners who don’t comply risk copping a fine of $834.

Normal off‑leash access will return outside construction hours.

Construction is due to begin mid-April and is expected to be complete by October.

The works include repairing damaged sections of the training wall, repacking rock armour and extending the wall toe, while also reinstating and widening a 70‑metre section of the crest footpath.

The training wall crest footpath and nearby beach areas will also be temporarily closed and beach access will be closed at 27th Avenue.
