A cyclist has died after being hit by a train in Brisbane early this morning.

Emergency crews were called to a level crossing at Runcorn around 4.30am on Monday, following reports of a serious train and bicycle incident.

Upon arrival, they found a man in his 40s suffering “significant life-threatening injuries”.

He was treated at the scene by critical care paramedics, however sadly could not be revived and died at the scene.

As a result of the fatal incident, all Airport, Beenleigh, Ferny Grove and Gold Coast line trains travelling in both directions have been delayed by at least 30 minutes.

A number of morning services have also been cancelled, with commuters being urged to check ahead of time.
