Gold Coasters are being warned to brace for a wet week ahead as an upper level low heads directly towards the South East.

The massive rain band is expected to dump upwards of 170 millimetres of rain on the city from today through to Friday.

The daily rainfall totals have intensified since the initial forecast by the Bureau of Meteorology, with 50mm now expected on Wednesday alone and another 90mm on Thursday.

There’s also the chance of thunderstorms and isolated heavy falls, which could lead to even heavier totals in some areas.

It’s not yet known if Council will activate sandbagging stations, but residents and business owners in low-lying areas are being told to prepare for possible flash flooding.

The wet weather will ease slightly by Friday, but 20mm of rain is still forecast, so anyone with outdoor plans this week will need to reschedule!
