Four teenagers have been charged over a dramatic stolen car crash on the M1 that sparked a lengthy police pursuit.

Emergency crews were called to the M1 at Coomera at around 9.45 on Saturday night, after a stolen black BMW X6 smashed into a blue Toyota RAV 4 and silver Toyota Hilux, causing one of the vehicles to flip on its side.

The driver of the RAV4, an 83-year-old Southport man, sustained minor injuries and was transported to Gold Coast University Hospital.

The BMW, allegedly stolen from a Mermaid Waters residence two days earlier, fled the scene.

Officers and the police chopper tracked the BMW to a Highland Park address, where the offenders dumped the car and got into a different black BMW.

The second BMW was tracked to Theatre Street in Oxenford, where four offenders fled on foot into surrounding streets and parkland.

A 14-year-old Coomera boy and 14-year-old Elanora boy were located by police on Hollywood Place a short time later and were taken into custody.
