A 15-year-old girl will front court later this week accused of viciously assaulting an off-duty police officer on a Gold Coast tram.
The 39-year-old Senior Constable had just finished shift and was travelling home on a tram around 12.15am on Saturday, when he observed a girl verbally abusing staff.
Police say the officer identified himself and attempted to de-escalate the situation, but the girl and three boys allegedly assaulted him.
“She has then turned and started abusing and being aggressive to him, three males have then started to push at him, and while that was happening the girl has punched him up to five times,” Acting Superintendent Michelle Piket said.
The officer exited the tram at the next stop at Parkwood East and contacted on-duty police who rushed to the scene.
A 15-year-old Oxenford girl, a 16-year-old Slacks Creek boy, a 17-year-old New Beith boy and a 15-year-old Yarrabilba boy were detained on the tram.
The girl has since been charged with one count of serious assault police officer and is due to appear at the Southport Childrens Court on June 18.
The 16-year-old Slacks Creek boy and 17-year-old New Beith boy will both be dealt with under the provisions of the Youth Justice Act.
Police are appealing to anyone who witnessed the incident, or may have mobile phone footage, to come forward as Detectives continue to conduct enquiries.
The off-duty officer suffered bruising and scratches.
