A 15-year-old boy has been charged with possession of violent extremism material after allegedly sending terrorist videos to other children online.

The Gold Coast boy was first arrested in September last year on alleged torture and indecent treatment offences after police conducted a search warrant.

Following further investigations by the Gold Coast Child Protection Unit and Counter Terror Investigation Unit, the boy was further charged with possession of child exploitation material and possession of violent extremism material on February 28.

He was taken into custody but given bail to appear in Southport Children’s Court on 25 March.

South Eastern Regional Crime Coordinator Detective Superintendent Chris Ahearn said the QPS will continue to target this type of behaviour.

“Everyone in Queensland has a right to feel safe, to not feel threatened or victimised,” Detective Superintendent Chris Ahearn said.

“The QPS is well positioned to monitor and assess both individuals and groups who may pose a threat to the safety and security of all Queenslanders.”
