Southeast Queensland is gearing up for a scorching end to the week, with temperatures set to climb across the region.
The mercury is set to soar to a warm 34 degrees on the Gold Coast today, while Brisbane will sizzle through a top of 36C.
Heatwave warnings are in place across most of the state’s east and interior, urging locals to stay alert as conditions intensify.
While western parts of the state will enjoy a slight reprieve today, the heat is only building on the Gold Coast, with inland suburbs feeling the brunt.
Areas like Nerang and Clagiraba are set to sweat through temperatures even warmer than the coastline.
It’s prompted emergency services to remind locals to stay hydrated, limit outdoor activities, and check on vulnerable neighbours.
The unsettled conditions are also expected to trigger another round of severe thunderstorms, with the weather bureau warning there is the chance of some action from late this morning.
