A driver has had to be rescued from the wreckage of his vehicle after it erupted into flames following a high-speed crash on the Gold Coast.
According to police, a black Holden Astra was travelling at speed along Gooding Drive, near the roundabout of Nerang Broadbeach Road in Merrimac, when it lost control and struck a power pole around 12.35am.
The vehicle then burst into flames, with the man behind the wheel having to be rescued from the driver’s seat by witnesses.
The driver, a 28-year-old Surfers Paradise man, suffered a significant head laceration.
He was treated at the scene by paramedics before being rushed to the Gold Coast University Hospital in a potentially life-threatening condition.
Police have confirmed investigations are ongoing.
