A young Gold Coast man has been charged with more than 100 child abuse and grooming offences.

The 22-year-old was initially arrested last month and charged with eight offences relating to one alleged victim.

However, further analysis of electronic devices seized from the man’s Helensvale home has resulted in police laying an additional 119 charges relating to another nine victims.

The charges include indecent treatment of children under 16, using the internet to procure children under 16, rape, grooming, procuring a young person for carnal knowledge, involving a child in making child exploitation material, and distributing child exploitation material.

The man’s matter was briefly mentioned in Brisbane Magistrates Court on Thursday, where he was denied bail to reappear on May 8.

Detective Inspector Paul Fletcher said the significant number of charges laid reflected the tireless work of detectives and specialist units working in close partnership.

“This outcome is the result of highly coordinated efforts between the Gold Coast CPIU, specialist investigators, and digital forensic experts,” Detective Inspector Fletcher said.

“Our investigations do not stop once a person is charged. We will continue to follow every lead and piece of evidence to ensure the full extent of offending is uncovered and we seek justice for all victims.”

Investigations are continuing.
