A Gold Coast man has been charged with child abuse material-related offences following a tip from authorities overseas.

In September, Australian Federal Police received a report from the United States’ National Center for Missing and Exploited Children (NCMEC) about child abuse material on a Dropbox account.

The AFP launched an investigation, linking the account to a Merrimac man.

Officers raided the man’s home on June 23, seizing numerous items including a computer which is undergoing further forensic examination.

The man has since been charged with possessing child abuse material.

The 58-year-old will front Southport Magistrates Court later on Monday.

AFP Sergeant Bianca Warland said the AFP worked with international partners to help protect Australian children.

“Our investigators work tirelessly to identify anyone sharing or downloading child abuse material and to ensure they are prosecuted,” Sergeant Warland said.
