A Gold Coast school girl has tragically died while holidaying with her family in Japan.

Chloe Jeffries was killed after a snowmobile she and her mother were riding flipped over an embankment near the ski resort town of Hakuba Village on February 28.

The 8-year-old suffered critical head injuries and was flown to hospital in Matsumoto where she passed away.

The Department of Foreign Affairs has confirmed it is providing consular assistance to the young girl’s family.

Chloe is the fourth Australian to die on Japanese ski slopes this year.

The death has left her local netball community shattered.

“Chloe was a very special part of our South Coast netball family,” The South Coast Netball Association posted on Facebook.
