The Gold Coast continues to strengthen its reputation as a premier destination for major sporting events, with the city securing the hosting rights to Game Three of the 2026 Women’s State of Origin series.
The decisive clash between the Queensland Maroons and the New South Wales Blues will ignite Cbus Super Stadium in Robina on Thursday, 28 May 2026, marking the first time the women’s Origin finale has been held on the Gold Coast.
The City’s tourism organisation Experience Gold Coast expects a sell-out crowd of more than 20,000 fans, with the event projected to reach over a million viewers across the nation.
The match will also mark the Gold Coast’s first State of Origin fixture since the city hosted the relocated men’s Game Three in 2021 during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Gold Coast Mayor Tom Tate said the event was another proud milestone for the city’s growing reputation as a global sporting hub.
“It doesn’t get any bigger than State of Origin rivalry, and our city will be in the thick of it in 2026,” he said.
“Hosting a blockbuster Game Three between the NSW women’s team and our mighty Maroons is a huge coup for the city.
“Women’s Rugby League is on the rise, and I expect a sell-out crowd, especially if Game Three is the series decider.
“It’ll be showtime on the Gold Coast, so let’s get behind these incredible league stars.”
The Origin blockbuster will headline an already packed 2026 calendar for women’s sport on the Gold Coast, joining major global tournaments like the AFC Women’s Asian Cup and the inaugural Women’s PGA Championship in March.
“We have worked closely with Stadiums Queensland and the NRL to secure this first-of-its-kind event for the city and we’re committed to attracting more headline NRL matches to the region in the future,” Experience Gold Coast’s Director of Events, Avril Harris, said.
“It’s shaping up to be a huge year for women’s sport on the Gold Coast, and we can’t think of a more fitting finale to the Women’s State of Origin series than seeing it play out on Maroons soil right here at Cbus Super Stadium.”
