If you found yourself reaching for an extra blanket this morning, you weren’t alone!

Gold Coasters have shivered through the coldest start to the year so far, with the mercury plummeting across the south east.

It comes as an arctic blast begins to well and truly make its presence felt, bringing frosty mornings and crisp days to the coast.

You’d be forgiven for struggling to get out of bed this morning, with some parts of the city, including Nerang, Highland Park and Gilston, getting down to just 1 degree around 6.40am.

Areas of Burleigh, Palm Beach and Coolangatta also shivered through a low of 4 degrees around the same time.

While icy winds will continue to make it feel even chillier, it is expected to clear into a sunny day with a top of 20 degrees.
