Movie World has blamed guest behaviour for an incident that saw four people spend an hour trapped on a rollercoaster at the theme park.
The group was on the Scooby Doo Spooky Coaster around 3.30pm on Sunday when one passenger on the ride allegedly took off a piece of clothing.
A spokesperson for Movie World said the action triggered the ride’s emergency stop mechanism, which left the group trapped 10 metres in the air for just over an hour.
While most people were able to disembark safely, Queensland Fire and Rescue were called in to help free four others who were stuck higher up on the coaster.
“Late this afternoon the Scooby Doo ride’s safety system was engaged following a minor guest behaviour incident which resulted in a ride stoppage in the high zone,” the spokesperson said.
“Due to the location of the stoppage, we engaged with Queensland Fire & Emergency Services (QFES) to conduct the unload process.”
The remaining passengers were successfully freed around 5.30pm, with the themepark confirming in a statement that all ride-goers made it down without injury.
“The guests on board were completely safe throughout the process and our expert team were in constant communication with them,” the statement said.
“The four guests on-board were safely unloaded.
“The safety and wellbeing of our guests is our highest priority and our team conduct regular training with QFES on these scenarios and we would like to thank them for their assistance.”
An operations and maintenance team is expected to carry out an internal investigation into the incident.
