We’re being urged to keep the brolly handy, with it set to be a wet and wild one across the Gold Coast today.

The city is set to cop a drenching thanks to the remnants of an Ex Tropical Cyclone that crossed the coast of Western Australia a few days ago.

According to the Bureau of Meteorology, some parts of the South East could see 100 millimeters of rain fall in just two days.

On the Gold Coast, around 40 millimeters has been forecast for today alone, with another 20 millimeters tipped to fall tomorrow.

In some good news, the weather bureau says the system is moving quickly and is expected to cross the state in just a day.

Anyone planning on heading out into the ocean is also being warned it will be dangerous.

A hazardous surf warning has been issued for Gold Coast waters, with BOM warning “large and powerful” surf conditions are expected to be hazardous for coastal activities such as rock fishing, swimming and surfing.

At this stage all Gold Coast beaches remain open, however lifeguards will continue to monitor conditions.

Surf Life Saving Queensland advise that:

  • People should consider staying out of the water and avoid walking near surf-exposed areas.
  • Rock fishers should avoid coastal rock platforms exposed to the ocean and seek a safe location that is sheltered from the surf.
  • Boaters planning to cross shallow water and ocean bars should consider changing or delaying their voyage.
  • Boaters already on the water should carry the appropriate safety equipment and wear a lifejacket.
  • Boaters should remember to log on with their local radio base and consider their safety management plan.
