Broadbeach has been transformed into a race track this morning for the traditional Magic Millions beach race and barrier draw.
The racing spectacle usually takes place on the sands of Surfers Paradise but has had to be shifted further south to the front of Kurrawa Surf Club this year as cyclone recovery efforts continue.
The famous beach gallop is part of the lead-up to the all-important barrier draw later this morning.
The draw will decide the line-up for the $3 million Magic Millions 2YO Classic and $3 million Gold Coast Magic Millions 3YO Guineas for Saturday’s big race day at the Gold Coast Turf Club.
Featuring in this morning’s gallops will be a lineup of international talent and local favourites including Tommy Berry, Angela Jones, Breeders’ Cup-winning jockey Julien Leparoux, Rachel King, Robbie Dolan, Andrew Mallyon, Les Tilley, Chelsea Baker, Madeline Wishart and Martin Harley.
Joining the morning will be Magic Millions Ambassadors Zara Tindall MBE, Mike Tindall, Queensland State of Origin Coach Billy Slater and Nicole Slater, alongside Argentinian Polo Superstar Nacho Figueras & Delfina Blaquier.
It also comes ahead of the Magic Millions Yearling Sales, which kick off in Bundall today with millions of dollars’ worth of Yearlings set to go under the hammer.
Gold Coasters are being encouraged to head down to Broadbeach this morning to watch all the action unfold, with gallops at 6.30am, 7.30am and 8.25am.
