Five people have been arrested after a stolen car chase on the Gold Coast that also dragged innocent drivers into the drama.

At around 11.45am on Thursday, police spotted a stolen Volkwagen Passat at the intersection of Kumbari Avenue and Smith Street.

Officers were quick to act, deploying tyre spikes around 10 minutes later, which eventually brought the vehicle to a stop on Smith Street a short time later.

Three women and two men were taken into custody at the scene.

Gold Coast influencer Mitch Orval was an innocent driver who happened to be heading through the area at the time and also got caught out by the spikes.

The social media star took to Instagram to share footage of him being stuck on the side of the road with multiple flat tyres and a police escort.

“I seen two guys in the bushes and all of a sudden these spikes got thrown out in front of me,” he told his Instagram followers.

“Turns out there was a stolen car they were trying to get.

“I pulled over to the side of the road.. both my tyres were blown out.”

He contacted police, who confirmed what had happened, before they organised a tow truck to pick his vehicle up for repairs.

However, he admits the whole ordeal has left him with out of pocket costs.

“Police will pay for the new tyres but I have to pay for half the towing because where I’m taking it is further than what they would tow outside their region,” Orval said.

“So, I’ve just been hit with a towing bill by the police. Cheers.”

Queensland Police have confirmed the wanted vehicle had been reported stolen during a burglary at Molloy Road, Morningside, in the early hours of this morning.

No charges have been laid at this stage.
