Iranian state media has used footage of empty bowsers at a Gold Coast petrol station to poke fun at Australia’s fuel crisis.

A regime-linked news agency posted a video of a Hope Energy service station that had run out of fuel to social media.

“Petrol and diesel running out in Australia,” Tasnim News Agency posted on X.

“Hundreds of gas stations in Australia have completely depleted their gasoline and diesel reserves.”

The swipe comes after Energy Minister Chris Bowen told Parliament that fuel shortages are now being reported at more than 500 service stations nationwide.

As of Wednesday, 55 stations in Queensland had run out of diesel, while 35 had no regular unleaded available.

In NSW, 187 service stations were out of diesel, while a further 32 had no stock at all.

In Victoria, 134 servos were lacking at least one type of fuel, while Western Australia had six stations completely out.

It comes as the Prime Minister summons state and territory leaders to a special national cabinet meeting next week to draft a national fuel conservation plan.

However, the Federal Opposition says it’s a simple solution, urging the Government to move fuel stock to servos that are running dry.

“The stocks are there, that’s what they keep telling us, they told us that again yesterday,” Liberal leader Angus Taylor said.

“So move the stocks to the sold-out servos, pick up the phone, speak to the companies, and tell them to move the fuel to where the servos are sold out”.
