A woman has been charged with the attempted murder of a 10-year-old girl after allegedly trying to poison her.

Police will allege on March 16, officers were notified that a 43-year-old woman had administered poison to herself and a child who was known to her, causing both to become sick and vomit.

Both the woman and child were taken to Logan Hospital and the girl was discharged that same day.

Detectives from Logan District Child Protection Investigation Unit commenced Operation Yankee Streethawk to investigate the incident.

The woman remained in hospital and was released into police custody on Saturday.

She has since been charged with one count of attempted murder (domestic violence offence).

The Yarrabilba woman was remanded in custody to reappear before Beenleigh Magistrates Court on 12 May.
