A man has been charged after allegedly leaving a a trail of destruction during a drunken, high-speed joyride across the Gold Coast..
Queensland Police allege that around 5am on November 9, officers were attending to an unrelated matter on Cotlew Street, when a 2017 Toyota Hilux utility drove past them at speed and on its rims, with the missing front tyres causing significant sparks.
The vehicle didn’t last long, crashing down an embankment a short distance up the road.
Officers quickly rushed to the crash site where they arrested the driver.
The man did not sustain any serious injuries and was transported to hospital in a stable condition.
Further investigations found the driver had allegedly driven from Surfers Paradise to Ashmore, colliding with several vehicles on the way.
A 21-year-old Nerang man has now been charged with one count each of drink-driving and dangerous operation of a vehicle and adversely affected by an intoxicating substance.
He is scheduled to appear at the Southport Magistrates Court tomorrow, 20 March.
