Charges have now been laid over a horror crash on the M1 that claimed the life of a baby boy.

A woman had pulled over on the side of the motorway in the early hours of September 21 to feed the infant when her silver Jeep Cherokee was struck by a grey Toyota Hilux.

The five-week-old baby suffered critical injuries in the collision and was rushed to the Gold Coast University Hospital where he sadly died a short time later.

The infant’s mother, a 24-year-old Ormeau Hills woman, was also taken to hospital in a serious condition.

Following a comprehensive investigation, the Forensic Crash Unit has now charged the driver of the Hilux, a 51-year-old Logan man, with a string of offences.

He’s been charged with one count each of dangerous operation of a vehicle causing death, offence of driving while a relevant drug is present in blood or saliva, and driving without due care and attention or without reasonable consideration for other persons, causing death or grievous bodily harm.

The man is due to appear in Southport Magistrates Court today.
