A man has been rescued after falling around 10 metres in the Gold Coast Hinterland.
The 19-year-old was hiking solo along the Pages Pinnacle Track in Advancetown on Sunday when he slipped.
The man was able to alert emergency services himself, sparking a major rescue operation.
Rescue crews located the man, who had suffered an impalement injury from the fall.
“From my understanding, he impaled his arm. With a stick or branch, just through the velocity of the fall,” Superintendent Brett Jackson told the ABC.
Firefighters were able to stretcher the man out to a waiting four-wheel-drive before the man was transferred to a waiting ambulance.
He was then transported to the Gold Coast University Hospital with significant arm injuries.
“Obviously, a bit of a frightening incident for him. It could have probably ended a lot worse as well.
“I think he’s fortunate with the injuries he did sustain but overall, a good coordinated rescue effort though.”
