A man has suffered serious spinal injuries in an alleged assault on the northern Gold Coast that was sparked by a dispute over a vehicle.

Three men arrived at the property at Stapylton on Saturday afternoon to confront the resident about a vehicle he had sold on social media a few days prior.

An argument then broke out before the resident was allegedly attacked.

“The gentleman who sold the vehicle was thrown through a balustrade and down onto the ground,” Superintendent Brett Jackson told the ABC.

“That then followed up, it’s alleged, that the victim was further assaulted with a piece of broken balustrade.”

The men fled the scene while the victim was treated on the scene by paramedics before being transported to the Princess Alexandra Hospital in Brisbane.

“Because of the significance of the injuries, we’re still uncertain just how long a recovery this victim has to go through.”
