Health authorities have issued an urgent measles alert for the Gold Coast after a person attended a local school while unknowingly infectious.

The individual is believed to have contracted the highly contagious virus overseas and attended Clover Hill State School in Mudgeeraba last Tuesday, sparking concerns of potential community exposure.

Students and staff who were present at the school that day, and those who travelled on the afternoon school bus to Austinville, are being urged to remain vigilant for symptoms.

Measles can take up to 18 days to develop and typically begins with a fever, cough, runny nose, and sore eyes, followed by a distinctive red rash.

Potentially exposed venues include:

  • Clover Hill State School on Tuesday 7 October between 8:30am – 3:30pm
  • Afternoon School Bus from Clover Hill State School to Austinville on Tuesday 7 October
  • Afternoon School Bus from Tulipwood Drive, Bonogin, to Austinville on Tuesday 7 October
