A man accused of assisting the suicide of a Gold Coast man has now been charged in relation to the suicide of a second person.

The 53-year-old was charged in September following an investigation into an alleged backyard euthanasia operation on the Gold Coast.

It follows the death of a Hope Island man in April this year, with toxicology results showing the man had a veterinary drug commonly used to euthanise animals in his system.

Police allege the man supplied the drug for the purpose of ending the Hope Island man’s life.

The accused has been charged with two counts of aiding suicide and one count each of trafficking in dangerous drugs, possessing dangerous drugs and receiving or possessing property obtained from trafficking or supplying.

Two others – an 81-year-old Southport woman and an 80-year-old Ashmore man – were also charged as part of the investigation at the time.

Following further investigations, the 53-year-old man has now been hit with nine further charges relating to the death of a 75-year-old man in Ashmore in January.

The man has also been charged with three counts of fraud, accused of posing as a qualified solicitor and charging fees for estate planning and end-of-life services.

A charge of converting monies has also been laid in relation to the alleged misappropriation of donated charity funds.

The man will front Southport Magistrates Court on December 2.
