Local motorists are being urged to plan ahead, with major disruptions expected across the city this weekend due to the Gold Coast Marathon.

Thousands of runners are preparing to hit the pavement for the annual event, which draws massive crowds every year.

This year’s marathon features a brand-new course stretching from Paradise Point to Miami, so police have warned traffic impacts will be significant across key areas of the city.

“The Gold Coast Marathon brings thousands of people to our city, and we’re committed to keeping everyone safe across the course,” Acting Superintendent Michelle Piket said.

“We ask motorists to be mindful of changed conditions, expect delays, and plan alternative travel routes where possible.

“Officers and traffic controllers will be working hard to keep things moving and minimise inconvenience to residents and visitors.”

Police say access to properties along the course will be managed under the direction of officers and traffic controllers, however delays are still expected.
