The Gold Coast has secured another major film production, in another boost to the city’s booming sector.

Filming will begin this month on The Mosquito Bowl, a story of four of America’s top College Football stars who enlist in the Marines following the attack on Pearl Harbour.

Based on Buzz Bissinger’s book The Mosquito Bowl: A Game of Life and Death in World War II, the Netflix movie is set in the Solomon Islands as the men prepare for the US invasion of Okinawa.

Directed by Peter Berg, it tells the story of a legendary game of football featuring some of the greatest players in history, which for many, will be their last.

Among the cast will be Nicholas Galitzine, Bill Skarsgård, Ray Nicholson, and Tom Francis.

The movie will employ around 515 cast and crew and inject around $80 million into the local economy.

Berg says he’s thrilled to be filming in Queensland.

The landscapes here are cinematic gold, perfect for bringing this story to life. So far, I’ve crossed paths with two kangaroos and a couple of pythons, and I’m seriously considering casting them!” Berg said.

“Huge thanks to Screen Queensland for their incredible support in helping make this production possible.”

Screen Queensland CEO Jacqui Feeney says Queensland’s locations were ideal for The Mosquito Bowl.

“Queensland’s screen ecosystem delivers consistently, and our reputation for realising a director’s vision is second to none,” Feeney said.

“We are proud to support a strong pipeline of projects for our local screen practitioners working in production and post-production.”
