Police have issued a warning to parents after a man was issued a notice to appear in court over his son’s illegal e-bike.

It comes after another mass gathering of e-bike riders on the weekend, which forced parents and kids to flee popular Pizzey Park in Miami.

Police say more than 30 youths had gathered on e-bikes on the weekend, with some of those bikes found to be illegal.

Several parents were called to their children’s e-bikes, including the father of a 12-year-old boy.

Police allege his bike had an illegal motor attached with a power output of more than 250 watts, effectively making it a motorbike.

The man was issued a Notice to Appear for allowing the use of an unregistered vehicle and unlicensed driving.

“Police will continue patrols in relation to e-bikes across the coast. We encourage parents to educate themselves and their children about e-bikes, where they can be ridden and the safety procedures that should be undertaken,” Acting Superintendent Michelle Piket said.

“The parents have to take some responsibility about what they’re buying their children and how those e-bikes are being used.”

Police say they will continue to monitor the promotion of further e-bike meet-ups, conceding the public is fed up.

“Numerous community members were attempting to use the park with their own children and expressed their anger toward the situation.\

“They were taking their children home due to the careless behaviour of the ebike riders.”
